In The 7 Laws of Raising Financially Independent Kids, Kasey Claytor explains that we
deepen our level of
listening by making keen observations of our children and the way they
play, sleep, react to stress, etc. She favors using an ancient Indian system of study called
Ayurveda, which in Sanskrit means Science of Life, to accomplish this. There are three main
mind/body types and everyone has qualities of all of them. Most people have one or two
prominent "types" or natures, and when you have discerned yours and your children's, it
makes it easier to understand them and find solutions to different difficulties they may be
having.
This is covered in the book. The quiz below helps parents see clearly where their child
fits in. For instance, an AIR child that is anxious will be comforted by relaxing and
reassuring time, the FIRE child who is angry will respond best by being soothed, and the
EARTH child, with the tendency to withdraw, will improve when stimulated. Many times a
child may have one type mind and a different type body!
Check the box which mostly fits
your child. Don't worry if she
doesn't fit perfectly in one box. Just
the tendencies are what we are
looking for.
Total the checked boxes. The
highest number will tell you your
child's basic nature. The second
highest will be an influence.
A description of the mind/body
types, taken from the book, can be
found
here.
We are all a combination of these
three, and at different times in our
lives some may become more
prominent than had been before. But
when observing your children you
can see what balanced type they
were born with! When they are
health and happy they will exhibit
the best qualities of their m
ind/body
type.
